This policy explains what personal data the Notiswitch app, the Notiswitch plug and the Notiswitch service collect, what we use it for, who else processes it, and what your rights are.
Who we are
Notiswitch is made by CompuThings B.V., a company based in the Netherlands. CompuThings B.V. is the controller of your personal data. You can reach us at info@computhings.nl.
What we collect
Your account
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and display name through Firebase Authentication. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we receive the relay address instead of your real one.
Your devices
The Notiswitch plugs you register: the device’s identifier, the name you give it, and the people you share it with (their email addresses, for invitations).
Cycle events
What your plug measures and reports: when a cycle starts and ends (timestamps), the power your appliance draws, and each cycle’s duration and energy use.
Push tokens
A token for your iPhone that lets us send it notifications. A new token is stored when you sign in on a device and removed when it’s no longer valid.
WiFi details
During setup, the app sends your WiFi network name and password to the plug over Bluetooth so the plug can connect to your network.
What we don’t collect
We don’t collect your location, contacts or advertising identifiers, and the app contains no advertising or third-party tracking.
Why we use it
We use this data only to provide Notiswitch:
- to link your plugs to your account and to the people you share them with;
- to detect when a cycle starts and finishes;
- to send you notifications about your appliances;
- to show your cycle history, with duration and energy use;
- to keep the service secure and fix problems.
The legal basis is the performance of our agreement with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, for security and troubleshooting, our legitimate interest in running a reliable service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
We don’t show ads, we don’t sell or rent your data, and we don’t use it for profiling or marketing.
Who processes it
- Google Cloud and Firebase (Google) host our backend and database and handle sign-in. Our backend runs in Google Cloud’s EU region europe-west1 (Belgium).
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) and Apple Push Notification service (Apple) deliver notifications to your iPhone. The text of a notification, such as “Washing Machine is done”, passes through these services.
- Apple and Google handle your sign-in when you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, under their own privacy policies.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
People you share a Notiswitch with can see that device and receive its notifications.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account details, devices, cycle history and push tokens without undue delay.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. To use any of these rights, or to have your account and data deleted, email info@computhings.nl from the address linked to your account.
You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Security
All connections between the plug, the app and our servers are encrypted with TLS. Access to your data requires you to be signed in, and database rules limit each account to its own devices and the devices shared with it.
Children
Notiswitch is not intended for children under 16.
